Recently, Open Doors received word that a Christian bookstore manager, Rami Ayyad, was kidnapped and murdered. The 32-year-old husband and father of two had been stabbed numerous times and shot in the head. Ayyad had received numerous threats on his life and had even reopened the bookstore after it was bombed last year.
Dr. Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, says Christians in the United States should pray for believers in Gaza. „It’s a tiny group, maybe 2,500 to 5,000 Christians in all of the 1.5 million people in Gaza; and yet, they must maintain a vital witness and a vital presence and a vital force for peace if we have any hope of bringing that violent society to stability”, says Moeller.
Moeller is calling on Christians to pray that the Christian community remains in Gaza, and that various organizations -like Palestinian Bible Society and the Gaza Baptist Church- will remain strong and committed to spreading the love of Jesus Christ.
The Palestinian Bible Society and Baptist church ran the bookstore, which also served as a community center. It was closed for a few days to assess security concerns. (AgapePress)
